There are a range of complexities associated with dementia. One of these is poor balance as cognitive impairment increases with the progression of the disease.
Often products in healthcare are clinical in appearance and function. This project approach aimed to challenge the status quo, by creating a product that was both clinically functional with an element of play.
The end result was a walking cane that also functions as a pseudo golf club. A ball is held by an embedded magnet, which can be removed as needed. When turning the walking cane upside down the product functions as a golf club. Through prototyping and embracing the design process, the end result was a high quality, hand made, detail focused walking cane.
